The $20 that changed the week

On Monday I went to TJ Maxx. Benson was at his Grandparents so I had the chance to slowly browse around the store. I found this plastic children's picnic table. I stood there and debated for a while and finally decided that it would be good enough for the summer, it was after all only twenty bucks.

I took it home and started to put it together. It was significantly smaller than the picture implied and I started having doubts. Just then I noticed Benson playing with the box. He had somehow smashed the one side and was using it as a slide (face first on his stomach). This continued all afternoon, and the next morning.

I was really getting into how much independent play was coming from one box so I pushed it up against a chair and helped him go down feet first. I think he must have counted (this really only includes yelling 'two') and slide one-hundred times since Monday.

Not only did I have some quiet moments from this twenty dollar box but the picnic table is a hit too! Yesterday he sat and ate his beef stew dinner at it. It is the answer to my "I hate the highchair" prayers.

lol, that's funny.... I remember how much I loved boxes when I was little. Who needs expensive toys, when cardboard and tupperware are so much more fun?! :)

It is always the box at our house too. Jensen got a Cars table for his birthday and it is the solution to Andrew's high chair problems. Except we have all carpet and it drives me crazy to have food anywhere but kitchen! Got to love boys.

(in reply to your comment- yeah, it already hurts sometimes, depending on where he's getting me and if its something sharp and boney... but I'm sure it'll get more as he gets stronger. And we haven't decided for SURE on anything name-wise. We're leaning towards Cameron, but don't know what'll fit when he's born... so we wont know for sure what his name will be until he gets here and we have a look at him :) But if Cameron still seems to fit, that's what it'll be)

That is great! I love how kids are so easily entertained by the smallest things. Caden has a little table that he LOVES, they are great for crafts, reading books, eating, etc. We use it all the time.

I love those little tables, they are the best. And I love those box toys, they can play with them forever!

So nice when they can be occupied by the simple small things!
