Depending on your expectation...

So I fell off the planet for three weeks. Amid surgery and my mom's two week visit I managed to have no time for the computer. (I guess I usually don't have time but maybe I need the break more when I stay home alone all day.) Anyway, to sum up...life is better when we carefully calculate our expectations. Here's what I mean:
--I watched several good movies while on 'hiatus', none of which I'd heard much about, therefore: low expectation. They were so wonderful and I believe that this is in part because of the large gap between expectation and result. (I would most highly recommend "Martian Child"...it is unexpectadly good!)
--Again with my Mom's visit I had low expectations. I mean I knew she would help immensely but I had no prior wish for all the things she should/would do. So, when she cleaned and organized, ironed, chatted, AND did everything for Benson I was overwhelmed with appreciation. Maybe in my High School mentality I would have been merely satisfied.
--Okay, now an example of how a high expectation is good. I expected to feel great after the splints were removed from my nose. Now this wasn't exactly how it went down but I really feel like the positive attitude helped. The discomfort was there either way and isn't it alway better to be optimistic? And now three weeks later I'm starting to get there.
Anyway, more to come (i.e. pictures) later but I just wanted Coila to know I'm still alive. Oh, and GOOD NEWS, I lost 3 pounds!

So glad to hear you are doing well.

It is amazing how much you appreciate all your mom did & does for you once you get to be the mom to someone else. (I often feel guilty about that)

I try to always remember that when I am not feeling appreciated! The appreciation will come it just might take 20 years. :)

I'm gald to hear you are doing better. It's always so nice to have mom's come and visit. They are always so helpful.

I'll have to check out Martian Child or whatever that movie was called...just hearing the title makes me have low expectations for it, but if you say it's good maybe I'll check it out.

Anyway, I hope you continue to get better. Glad to know you're still alive!

Rachel--please see this movie!! It is not about aliens, it made my husband cry--it's that good.

Oh that's why. I was wondering. Thanks for the update! ;) I'm so glad to hear it's going alright and your mom came and helped take care of you and Bensen!

Also, I *loved* Martian Child and I am sorta lukewarm about John Cusack.

hey there!( I wrote you a note on facebook too). I'm glad you're getting better! It's awsome your mom could come up for so long and of course she was helpful, your mom's awsome! :) I'm really glad you got a releif player. As for that movie, I haven't seen it yet, but I had wanted to when I saw the preview... it looked really sweet. I'll have to wait for a girls night sometime though- not sure if I'll convince Shawn. Or maybe when I have the baby and I'm sitting on the couch all day being a milk factory ;) Well take care and write me back!
--I'll send you an email on your gmail when we have the baby!

You LOST 3 pounds?! I GAINED 20!!
I'm glad you are finally feeling back to normal. Our pool party will have to be in 2 weeks, cause we're just trying to get our grass to stay alive at this point!
